The HarperCollins Author and Design Academy trains and supports creators from underrepresented and ethnic backgrounds to become successful writers and designers in the publishing sector. The free six-week programme equips students with the tools to succeed in publishing.
Our aim is to help motivated and dedicated students navigate the publishing industry. Now in its fourth year, the academy has graduated over 200 students, with many finding their paths in publishing and writing careers. The Academy was founded by Rose Sandy, and is now run by Ken Wilson-Max who is publisher of Kumusha Books, HarperCollins Children’s Books’ first imprint dedicated to publishing books that are inclusive, representative, and sell globally. Ken has had a 40 year career in publishing, and has been an award-winning author and illustrator for 30 years. He is a long-standing advocate for making every child a proud reader, whatever their background.
It’s brilliant that 90 writers a year will be able to add to their skills and also participate in this industry.“
